Ratings & Reviews

Saunders Cabinet is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Useful, Attractive Cabinet - One person do it! Yesterday, I assembled this cabinet - I'd put the drawers together the previous night, and it still took me about 7 hours. That's because I glue all the joints during assembly and wait for the joints to dry before moving on. If you want to do it right do that. The assembly went fairly easily, and I have only four minor issues/complaints. 1)The instructions for inserting the drawers are inadequate. The first got "stuck" in the housing unevenly. I had to YANK it to get it out, and then I had to re-pack almost all of the bearings. Pain in the neck. It still doesn't fit quite properly. The other two are just fine. If the instructions had been detailed, this would not have happened. I'll know next time because I'm buying another. 2) There is too much space in between the glass doors in the middle -about 1/4". I tried to adjust, but it's maxed out. Looks fine, I'm just a stickler for detail. NOTE: In photos, hinges are on the outside. THEY ARE NOT making them this way now, and that's fine. Hinges are better quality, very easy to use when assembled, and are invisible, BUT they didn't change the width of the doors and they should have. 3) Two holes were drilled too small for one of the door pulls. I had to open them up. Boo Hiss! Someone was on holiday!! 4) The hinge attachment screws are NOT round top screws, as listed in the instructions. They are (properly) flat head metal screws, and they are fine. Manufacturer should check this verbiage as it is incorrect and thus confusing. This is a solid, attractive cabinet, and the nail and screw holes, etc. are drilled in the correct places YAY ! except for one drawer. I had to persuade it with a mallet. So close to 100% perfect, that I'm ordering another. It would be GREAT if the manufacturers could address these other minor issues. It would be stellar! Here are some assembly tips: 1) Wood Dowels: Briefly soak in water. They will expand and dry in hole and conform to hole, and therefore will fit better and be more stable. 2) Use Gorilla Glue for a better, more permanent assembly. BUT - FOLLOW the manufacturer's INSTRUCTIONS and slightly damped one side to be joined. I let each joint dry for an hour in between to ensure stability. It's one reason I could do this alone. 3) When inserting the doors, IF you're working alone, rest the door on a tall object and insert a small pillow of foam under door so that you won't hav to 100% support its weight with your foot. I still used me feet lots, but it was easy and more stable this way. 4) Drawers: Get down not he grout at eye-level with the drawer guides so that you can see EXACTLY where the drawer needs to go. I messed this up with the first drawer, and it'll never be exactly right (unless I yank it out and check that the bearings are where they ought to be. Instructions were "sketchy" and the drawers are not the type to effortlessly glide into the housing. 5) Assemble in a large, open space and use furniture sliders to get into place. Its really not hard at all. That was the easiest part. 6) You need: Rubber mallet, electric screwdriver AND a hand-held for fine-tuning, small flat-blade screwdriver to "persuade" plastic locking cams to lock (LOVE these cams!!!!), Gorilla Glue, small dish for soaking dowels, small dish and cloth soaked in water and wrung out, pillow and some object about 10" tall to rest door on, furniture sliders. 7) Helpful Hint: This stuff stinks fo carcinogenic paint. I took it all out of the box and aired it out for three days with the windows open and 2 HEPA filters on. It really helped. I would be cautious about this chemical smell because it is dangerous to inhale over long period of time. It off-gasses for months. I plan to leave the cabinet doors open and the HEPAs on every night for a few weeks/months until smell is not detectable. Good Luck! You'll love this! Looking forward to many years of enjoyment out of this cabinet.
