Not in good shape
This trunk has something on the top that looks like white paint. It will not just simply wipe off. For the money I would not have expected this.

Second Purchase in Different Color
I originally bought the Brown Voyager Bench because it coordinated with the other furniture in the den.
While remodeling the dining room, I decided to use the brown bench for extra seating and storage. Now I can seat more than four people around the table.
Meanwhile, we got new furniture for the den in black faux leather with white stitching. I immediately thought of the Voyager Bench to replace the one I had repurposed for the dining room. The black is a perfect match for the new furniture, even to the white stitching.
I found the benches to be excellent for storage and I love the details which give it the look of an "heirloom" steamer trunk passed down from other generations.
I noticed a review from a customer who felt the bench was too small. The benches are exactly as depicted. Some of the main storage is taken up by the drawers, but that is one of the features I really like. You do not have to unload and dig through the main storage area to get to smaller items you use frequently.
The weight limit of 250 pounds makes it perfect for storage and extra seating. around the dining room table. The well-padded top adds comfort to the bench without having to use pillows.
I had to go back on insulin and have gained thirty-five pounds. The bench was sturdy enough for me at 200 pounds.

Too Small
First, I would like to say that the piece is pretty; however, it is too small for price and it too low. Not enough storage space. It’s a small carryon bag.
If you want it for decoration piece, maybe it will fit. However, I am returning because it is too small for the price and it too low for sitting. I will be returning if possible. I just hate that I will be paying for shipping twice.

Lovely and functional
This item is so stylish, it's well made as far my expectations and with the exception of being a tad lower than I wanted, it works out perfect for the foot of my bed. I managed to store my extra blankets including a 15 lb anti-anxiety blanket. Great purchase!

Is it possible to put a padlock on this?

The Voyager Bench is secured by two flip-locks per drawer. You would not be able to use a padlock with this trunk. We hope this information is helpful.

Can I sit on it? How much weight can it support? Does the top open, and is there hinges for the top?
You can sit on it, I would guess it holds like 250 lbs. There were 2 grown women about 125 lbs each sitting on it during a family gathering without any problems. It does open can't remember if there's a hinge. My son took it with him when he moved out.
